A Young Gentleman's Careless Drinking Results In A DWI And Time Incarcerated In Jail
Richard had an exceptionally hard time keeping a job. Indeed, due to his slothfulness and lack of motivation, he was jobless far more often than he was employed with a job. And when he did secure a job, he had an extremely hard time getting to work when his shift started, he often got less than positive performance assessments, and he called off sick so consistently that he usually got fired a few weeks after he started working.
To no one's surprise, one of the results of Richard's less than optimal employment record was the fact that he was without much money from day-to-day. Regardless of Richard's disgraceful work history and financial disregard, on the other hand, one way or another he made it a point to drink in an abusive and excessive manner on an everyday basis.
So it came as no big surprise when Richard got a third DUI. When he went before the court, the judge told Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was shameful and, consequently, he was going to sentence Richard to serve six months incarcerated in jail.
During his time while locked up in jail, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol abuse facts such as alcohol related effects and alcohol deaths, about the harmful effects of hazardous and excessive drinking, and he was required to get alcohol therapy. The judge underscored the fact that unless Richard receives quality alcohol treatment and learns how to live a life of abstinence, he will most probably be spending more than a short amount of time placed behind bars.
Richard said that he understood what the judge was pronouncing but he still asserted that incarceration was not the right response. The magistrate thought otherwise and said that it was his responsibility to keep alcoholics off the streets who drive and drink and who get a DUI. To substantiate this perspective, the judge listed some venerable, extensively researched alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that emphasized some of the distressing outcomes that are related to hazardous and excessive drinking such as alcohol related deaths.
Although Richard understood that he drank in a hazardous and excessive manner, he never thought that he was an individual who was dependent on alcohol. So it was a real bombshell when Richard began experiencing chronic alcoholism signs and symptoms and alcohol withdrawals approximately eight hours after getting placed behind bars.
To treat his alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a safe manner, Richard was taken to an alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detoxification and then brought back to jail. While locked up in the county jail Richard was given alcohol rehab but due to the fact that he got this rehabilitation as something that was forced upon him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his excessive and irresponsible drinking.
When his time in the municipal jail was over, the judge without reservation told Richard that he would be under rigorous observation and would be mandated to take periodic blood alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking problem and how he grudgingly followed the counseling procedures while behind bars, the magistrate knew that it was only a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his irresponsible drinking behavior.
As the judge reflected on Richard's situation, he couldn't help but think about how some people never use their brain and discover how to live in a mature and responsible manner.
